There are many opportunities for parents and carers to become more involved in the College as a volunteer.

Classroom teachers always eagerly welcome parents who would like to assist with excursions, art and craft activities, cooking, and various other classroom activities. For parents who may not be able to assist in this way, packs can be prepared by teachers for home help.

The College is especially grateful for parent and carer volunteers assisting with the various sport carnivals and taking on coach, manager and umpire roles for team sports. Without the generosity of our parent community, it would not be possible to enter the vast amount of team sports that we do, which our students so thoroughly enjoy.

We regularly request volunteers for events, including the Welcome Families BBQ, Mother’s Day Breakfast and Father’s Day Breakfast.

Working with Vulnerable People Registration (WWVP) and online induction

Before becoming involved in coaching a sport, assisting in the classroom or on an excursion, all volunteers are first required to complete a Working with Vulnerable People registration. This is a requirement under legislation. Below is a link to an information flyer that provides more information. A copy of the Working with Vulnerable People card will be required before assisting in this capacity.

Volunteers are also required to complete one online induction (which includes acknowledgment of the Catholic Education Tasmania Child Safety Briefing document). This will take approx. 30 minutes.

Volunteers

Volunteers are an important part of our community.

We would like to thank you for your generosity in offering your time to volunteer at St Mary’s College.

For information on volunteering at St Mary’s College, please view the information booklets below.

Volunteer Information Booklet – volunteering at St Mary’s College as parent help, including attending excursions or as a supervising adult e.g. sports coach/manager.

Community Volunteer Information Booklet – volunteers from outside the greater College community, e.g. experience in the classroom or similar.

All volunteers are required to please read, acknowledge and sign the Catholic Education Tasmania Child Safety Briefing form below.

Sports volunteers

A friendly reminder that the school is unable to register a team without any parent assistance.

New compliance requirements for regular volunteers will be communicated to parents and carers in full.

Regular volunteers are now required to complete an online College induction which includes the Code of Conduct and the Catholic Education Child Safety Briefing. The induction will take approximately 30 minutes to complete.

  • This is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of not only our students but also our volunteers and enable all to participate in school-based activities in a safe environment.

You can complete the induction and upload your WWVP registration card by clicking on the below link and completing the eform.

Presentation Families

Presentation Families is a group of parents and carers of St Mary’s College who focus on building community. Our goal is to make the College a place of welcome where families feel comfortable being in partnership with the College in Catholic education for their children and young people.

Parents and carers are invited to share ideas of opportunities to support hospitality, compassion and inclusion of all.

This Charter is to be reviewed by the St Mary’s College Board biennially.

Presentation Families is not a fundraising body. Parents and carers at St Mary’s College contribute a levy of $20 per family annually. The purpose of the levy is to alleviate pressure on families to fundraise for the College.

This fund will be used first and foremost to fund family events at the College. An initial meeting early in the year will budget for family events and in consultation with the College, decide on a target for the remaining funds which reflects benefit for students in both the Junior and Senior Schools.

How can I be involved?

To keep up to date with future sessions and initiatives, or to learn more or volunteer to help at an upcoming event, please email Community Relations on [email protected]
